Whatever Happend to P-Rock? and Whatever Happend to Nu Metal? Club nights

Hey hey! If you're a boarder or skater, you might be into the stuff I play at club night Whatever Happend to P-Rock? which takes place at The Macbeth in trendy Hoxton. Not far from Old Street or Liverpool Street. The last show had Justin Sane from Anti-Flag performing his solo stuff last month. It was awesome as I got to see the guy in such a small venue and he was full of cool stories about the political punk band that he fronts.

I djed before and after his set playing the likes of Rancid, Good Riddance, NOFX, Mad Caddies, Snuff, Bouncing Souls, Goldfinger, Frenzal Rhomb, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Anti-Flag, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Lagwagon, Pennywise, Big D and the Kids Table, Distillers etc etc. After my set Justin told me that I played his favourite NOFX song 'Seeing Double at the Triple Rock' and that he was flattered that I played his track 'Turncoat'.




The next P-Rock is Saturday 18th September and will feature Boston Pop-Punk outfit A Loss For Words (www.myspace.com/alossforwords) plus support.

Rebellion Festival review on Subba Cultcha

This is me with Charlie, the front-man of legendary punk band UK Subs. I reviewed the old skool punk festival Rebellion in Blackpool at the beginning of this month, where I got to photograph and write about the original punk rockers as well as more contemporary artists including Vice Squad, Penetration, Big D and the Kids Table, F***ed Up, Citizen Fish, Star F***ing Hipsters, The Slackers, Dwarves, Agnostic Front, Gallows, UK Subs plus many many more.

This was one of the best festivals I have ever attended. The crowd were the friendliest bunch I have ever encountered, the organisation of the event meant very few bands I wanted to see were clashing and there was absolutely no trouble whatsoever.

Samantha Cameron is the Youngest First Lady Ever

Samantha Cameron Obviously took style advice from our Blue Shift Article

Watching the news footage this morning- the point was raised that both Nick Clegg (Lib-Dem leader and now Deputy PM as part of the democrat-tory cabinet) and our new Prime Minister David (or should we still call you Dave?) Cameron are very young for leaders. Both 43 they are are over a decade younger than labour leader Gordon Brown and both a year younger than Tony Blair when he came to be PM in 1997. Cameron is the youngest PM then for nearly 200 years.
But his wife Samantha Cameron beats him by being the youngest first lady (prime ministers wife) as far as records can prove.
She's also going to be responsible for the second child born to number 10 in 150 years.
So now the Cam's have secured their names against Pitt the Younger in the history books.

The 2010 Election- what the hell happened?

As we write this the General election looks pretty dodgy still and a lot of people are quite angry at what had happened at some of the polling stations yesterday (voters being turned away despite arriving before 10pm), there’s also been plenty of reports that suggest that Postal Votes are being intercepted and that people not eligible for the vote were sent ballot papers and were allowed to use them.
In the footage from TV reports it would seem that it was mainly young people who were waiting outside to vote.
It doesn’t seem very fair that after the electoral commission spent so much time and money (that tv ad campaign) spent so long trying to convince the under 25s vote that they should be turned away at the last hurdle.
Let us know what you think- If you were turned away from voting last night let us know- we’d like to here more about it.
We’d also like to here your opinion on the “first past the post” voting system. Is it fair that a large portion of voters could chose one party and then for them not to be adequately represented in the government?

Whilst Commuting into work this morning I saw this bright and colourful poster on the platform.
Apparantly those tech-y friends who told you there was an iPhone app for everything were right as The Dummies Guide has released a helpful quiz app to help you pick who to vote for in the general election.
Publishers Wiley have coincided this launch with the release of their new book "British Politics for Dummies". This 10 question quiz will recommend which political party you are most suited too.

May 6th is time to Vote

Unless you dont get out that often you will be very aware from the campaign posters and appearances of party candidates left right and centre that an Election has been on the cards.
Gordon Brown will go to Buckingham palace this morning in order to ask the Queen permission for a May 6th General Election.
What does this mean for you? We'll if you are not on the electoral role then it is most definately time to register for your vote. You have till the 22nd of April to register.
We at Misticon just wanted to urge all of the lovely Misticon ladies not to be part of the silent generation and make sure you guys get down to the polling stations!
(Don't worry we wont go as far as old Paris with the Vote or Die! Slogan)

Why our politicians are a step behind the states

If you were to ask why Barrack Obama succeded where his fellow democrat John Kerry had failed , and won the 2008 US Predsidential Elections you would have a simple answer. Because he used (alongside the support of his staff) social media to connect with the younger demographic.
Watching "Ask the Chancellors" on Channel 4 last night was interesting and engaging- at last count by politcal social media tracking tool Tweet Minister had tweets for the hour the programme was broadcast at 12'500 or 4 tweets a second/240 tweets a minute. I decided to see how easy it was to "connect" with political parties on social media. Labour came in the bottom of the polls on Facebook with Just over 9'000 facebook fans, Liberal Democrats a little better with 9'585 fans and Conservatives led the major three parties by having 28'000 facebook fans.
If I was David Cameron though I wouldn't be pulling out the bunting yet as in social media terms thats very poor- The Facebook group "Jeremy Clarkson for Prime Minister" has in excess of half a million members.
It seems after further investigation that especially on a local level the big parties aren't very interested in connecting with you on social media. I'm just curious to know why they feel they are safe to not communicate with people through this medium.
If I had been responsible for the PR on any of the three chancellors last night I would have made damn sure I was tweeting and posting and spreading awareness of party policies and ways to get involved.
Lets see if they up their game over the next six weeks

David and Samantha Cameron must have rattled their pr hands together with glee when they saw the press coverage given to Carla Bruni and her posh pin up pics that were released last week.
Hot on the heels of the french first lady some "raunchy" photos have been "discovered" by the aspiring pms wife.
At Misticon we know a pr stunt when we see one and these dated images are all a bit to contrived for our liking.
Aparantly these photos were a favour for a designer friend of Sam's taken in 1997 the same year she married (you can call me) Dave Cameron.
